The Nurburgring is known for a lot of records, most of them to do with speed and power. But these days--with the abundance of new cars and segments--the records set there are a little more diverse. Recently, the Toyota Prius Plug-in set one of its own--a fuel economy record that will go down in the history books.
The task, to make the 13-mile run around the 'Ring using as little fuel as possible, was utilizing using a full battery, and no extra material. Making a 21-minute run (not exactly speedy, but that wasn't the point), the Prius managed to use no less than five tablespoons of gasoline--thus achieving a fuel economy average of 698 miles per gallon.
