The Toyota Highlander has always been known for having a lot to offer in terms of style and innovation. For the 2013 SEMA show, Toyota decided to highlight these qualities by unveiling a special SpongeBob SquarePants-themed version of the SUV.
Thanks to the help of the talented team on the Animal Planet show, "Tanked," Toyota had an actual fish tank installed inside the highlander to complete the underwater motif it was going for. The 800-gallon tank holds about 115 fish. Experienced designers Brett Raymer and Wayde King collaborated with Nickelodeon and Toyota to make this vision a reality.
While describing the experience, King explained, "Brett and I love the challenge of designing aquariums in every shape and size and welcomed the opportunity to bring living art like this to SEMA. The teams at Toyota and Nickelodeon gave us great platforms in the Highlander and SpongeBob SquarePants to create something fun and inspiring for fans."1
The episode of "Tanked" featuring the aquatic Highlander will air next March, so be sure to check it out! You won't want to miss the colorful exterior designs that bring this vehicle to life, not to mention the saltwater tank that is now home to over 32 species of fish. It's quite intriguing to see the technology that was developed to make this all possible!
